Geordie D - 14 October 2014 @ 7:25 pm

I didn't answer a call from this number this evening
then Googled it and found this site. One of my mates
works for BT so I texted him to see if he had called me
from work. He's just replied saying he did. So a call
from this number could be almost any one from BT
ringing you about anything.

Gary - 18 June 2014 @ 8:10 am

I can confirm it is a legitimate number. My particular call was from BT reception desk saying they had a parcel which was accidentally
delivered to them rather than me. It must be a generic BT number displayed when they call out.

shirley - 12 October 2013 @ 8:51 am

i had a call from this number saying that i had called yesterday directory enquiries the
day before for a total of 98pound i was not even home is this really BT

Onlyme - 09 September 2013 @ 7:02 pm

Got a call from them at 01.30 a few nights ago then today again both on my mobile. They left message stating my name and some ref number and somthing about a fault (was a bit poor reception). I did report a fault but am sure I never gave out or used my mobile to call

helen - 18 February 2013 @ 8:32 pm

ive had 16 calls todayin the space of 30 min- 9 went to voicemail before i rejected the number - 3 after that so i turned voicemail off -its an automatated voice saying he call costs ONLY 2.19 minute press star to accept but doesn't tell you why the call is being made - soon as i turned voicemail off the calls stopped - funny that!

Nick - 17 December 2012 @ 12:14 pm

Just took a call from this number. I've recently signed up to BT Infinity and they were calling to arrange the installation date.

Pamela G - 06 July 2012 @ 5:39 pm

Had a call from this number today.
The guy said he was 'looking for
good friend' strong Asian accent.
Said his name was James. He asked
me if I wanted to do modelling. I
am nearly 50 year old. Not ugly but
definitely not model material now.
Lol. I used to be a model years ago
but how he knew this and had my
number heaven only knows

Mike P - 04 June 2012 @ 12:41 pm

I had a call from this number at 05.53 today (4th.June 2012).
Thank goodness I had the ringer "off" on both phones!!! That way "silent calls" are just that...silent.

Happy BT Customer - 07 March 2012 @ 12:06 pm

I had a missed call from this number and was reading this page when they called me back. It was a legitimate call from BT to confirm an order I
had placed with them, so not all calls from this number are bogus.

Watto - 17 November 2011 @ 3:22 pm

Definitely BT, it is the BT engineering fault guys testing the line.

Anonymous - 25 October 2011 @ 5:30 pm

This is a 'in house' generic number for BT operate. I know because my wife works there and she phones me from this number....

tcuk - 30 September 2011 @ 6:42 pm

The call I got today on this number was from BT about a fault I had reported. Perhaps its a group number used by different departments.

Bob - 25 March 2011 @ 11:43 am

Had several calls from this number to my Orange mobile number

marshrunner - 16 September 2010 @ 3:06 pm

Sick to death of this number calling me day in day out. It's definitely harassment.

Roy the boy - 22 May 2010 @ 8:03 pm

Had a call from this number and it went to my answering service. When I called my answering service I was told it would cost 1.98 a minute to take the recorded call, but they also advised deleting the call immediately.

greenblob37 - 14 January 2010 @ 3:55 pm

We keep getting silent calls from this number - three during the past 2 days. If you
answer there is no reply.
As this is a continuing thing with several 0800 numbers, or "number withheld" or "out of
area", we are now not answering any of those calls any more. Unfortunately, this makes it
impossible for my German relatives to speak to me unless they leave a message on the
We are sooooooo fed up with these nuisance calls. Who ever had the silly idea that
companies should be allowed to advertise by phone and use premium lines for you to phone
them back??????

Curly - 15 October 2009 @ 7:51 pm

Have just answered the call from this number 08003289393. Said they were BT and wanted to
sign me up for broadband and phone with lots of extras ie. router, caller display, free
internet security, told em to call back in a couple of days as I've recorded to
conversation and wanted to listen to it in my own time. Will they call back????

Bluecrush - 30 September 2009 @ 5:03 pm

It's from the BT Call centre. I had trouble with my broadband and they called me from this number.

kkkk - 14 September 2009 @ 10:20 am

It is definately BT,they are working on a fault on your line or testing it

indyrocks007 - 02 September 2009 @ 6:16 pm

this number has been ringing me every day. shame nothing can really been done about it

rte - 07 August 2009 @ 1:34 pm

I have had this number ringing my mobile phone. I thought they only called landlines but obviously not. I don't know who it is or what they want but i don't recognise this number.

C - 03 April 2009 @ 2:38 pm

Think its just a generic no. My dad works for BT and if he calls me, this number comes up.

Not always a sales call.

naomi - 26 March 2009 @ 2:59 pm

I have had 10 calls in one week from this so called B.T phone number!!! i answered it and had to wait a minute or two before
someone actually got round to speaking to me claiming that my husband and i have a buisness account with them but neither my
husband or myself have a buisness account so please people be careful as they will try to pull the wool over your eyes!!!!.

Never give contact details and if possible report it if necessary as these phone calls are really annoying!!!!!!!!!

LKB - 23 March 2009 @ 5:18 pm

My elderly father keeps getting nuisance calls from this number. He's on TPS. I answered the phone and asked who it was and a female replied saying it was BT, so I put my father on. I hear him say he's with BT, gives out his full name, and he begins giving out his address - at which point I cut off the line before he gave out full details. He said they told him they were just checking his details. If they truly were BT, they would know whether or not he's with them and would have his details. I've told him never to give out his details to anyone on the phone. Taking advantage of elderly people is disgusting. If it is BT, they ought to be ashamed.

Davy52 - 10 March 2009 @ 8:22 pm

Had another silent call from them tonight. pains in the a.

Mike - 10 March 2009 @ 3:42 pm

this number just rang me and all I could hear was a guy with a NI accent effing and jeffing to his colleague!!!!

Not very professional and very rude.

MIchael - 04 February 2009 @ 4:35 pm

I don't think its BT - more likely to be Barclaycard - debt collecting or similar

JM - 22 January 2009 @ 2:28 pm

Same here - on TPS (but as a BT customer, does TPS apply?) - ask them to stop calling and it does for a month and then they start again - I'm lucky - I only get on a day at the moment....it's cos they want me to move my 2nd line back to them from Sky....

Ade - 17 January 2009 @ 3:47 pm

Four silent calls from this number in the space of one hour.

Am on TPS and have, at least three times, asked BT to stop calling as their speculative calls have, in the past, reached nuisance/harassment levels.

Each time I am assured the calls will stop. They do... for about a month.

Rob - 15 January 2009 @ 2:34 pm

Two here... so far. Yesterday and today.

It drives me up the wall cos our broadband signal is so poor that whenever the phone rings I have to get in the cupboard under the stairs and restart the router by hand. Grrrrrrr!

BT - Leave Me Alone! - 19 December 2008 @ 7:19 pm

This number is a BT sales dept where they relentlessly pester you to go back to them if you have switched to Sky Talk or the like. I have spoken to them three times in the last six weeks and each time I have told them to poke off, but they still keep ringing. I have now programmed the number into the phone so that no-one in the house answers - maybe then they'll get the message.

Gus - 18 December 2008 @ 4:19 pm

I had a call from this number today - it was a sales call for BT Vision. Girl with very strong Northern Ireland accent. A bit pushy - must have been on commission. Again, this number looks to be a 'general purpose' BT line.

Kevin - 15 December 2008 @ 8:58 pm

Had 3 calls daytime/evening today from this number but answered.
1471 shows this 08003289393

Interesting to see other people getting calls from this number
maybe tele-marketing??

Iain - 11 December 2008 @ 3:06 pm

Another call from this number today at 15:01, on my fax line.
Intriguing that I was getting calls from this source almost exactly one year ago. Perhaps I have something that comes up for renewal at this time of year.

Quintin - 10 December 2008 @ 5:34 pm

I've had several calls from this number in the past couple of days. I answer (after only a couple of rings) either to have nothing or a beep on the end of the line. Sounds like some kind of auto-dialer to me. I'm not sure if it's targetting my office land line (BT) or my mobile (O2) as I current have the former redirected by BT to O2.

Lee - 15 October 2008 @ 12:33 pm

This number is a voice activated dialler, so you'll get a reply, if you answer, assuming its working. It has rung me around 6 times in the last 2 weeks. Today i was lucky enough to talk to them, and it was B.T trying to sell their bt vision. I think if a person is nearing the end of their contract, their number will appear on the dialler list more often than others, also depends on what products you have, so happily tell them your not intrested, and this should get your number removed, from their dialler.

Joolsdd - 15 February 2008 @ 8:30 pm

Yes, I had a call from this number claiming to be BT but asking whether my line rental was with BT and whether my calls were with BT. I told the caller that if they were from BT they would know this. BT should be more professional.

miker2 - 13 February 2008 @ 6:03 pm

I just answered it this time. It was definitely BT as the call was about a written complaint I made to BT in Cardiff. Very confusing!

miker2 - 13 February 2008 @ 1:48 pm

Other forums (fora?) suggest this number actually belongs to OneTel

Oli - 11 February 2008 @ 10:41 am

I had a call from this number enquiring about our Wi-Fi network (KeZone)... I gave them very little info as it was a tad suspicious. I have emailed BT's Openzone manager to find out if this is actually a BT number and if he has any idea of what is going on!

Angiecream - 28 January 2008 @ 8:00 am

I had 5 calls in the middle of Saturday night from 1.39 to 1.48am from this number. They said "you have a reverse charge call from "beeping sound", press whatever to accept. At first I thought it was 0800 Reverse, which I had blocked in December BUT I have just spoken to BT nuisance calls advice line (150)& they have confirmed it IS a BT number! I rang BT Customer services to get this stopped & an unhelpful Indian? gentleman tried to sell me the BT "Choose to refuse" service at 10 per month. I told him that I am not paying to stop BT nuisance calls, & that I am with TPS & would he please have these calls stopped completely. Eventually he agreed to escalate this & make sure it was done. I just hope it happens, it's very distressing to be woken in the middle of the night with a reverse charge call, you think there's some sort of family emergency. I am firmly of the opinion that this is a scam to generate income from premium rate call charges, but I am completely astonished that BT is somehow involved in it.

Keller - 25 January 2008 @ 4:23 pm

Got called by a foreign-sounding guy claiming to be BT. The number seemed odd, so I was very wary and gave nothing away about the company. He asked if we had any other branches, any abroad, if we had a switchboard, if we were thinking of moving offices soon(?), how many computers we had and how many staff and for an email address to send BT offers to. I didn't give him one. Weird.

Getting bored now - 20 December 2007 @ 5:35 pm

Been called by this number five times over the past fortnight- whenever I pick up there is silence, a little background noise, and then they hang up. I'm starting to feel quite unloved...

Iain - 13 December 2007 @ 3:12 pm

Another call from them today, agin on the fax line. Managed to grab it before the fax answered.

"Hello, I'm Carl from BT. Could I speak to the person who handles the phone bills"
"That would be me"
"Would you be interested in upgrading your phone system"
"thank you" - and with that he rings off.

Given that this is a BT line, and that BT know it's a fax line, why does Carl ring me on the fax line and not on the number that BT know to be our voice line?

Or does that explain why their bills are so high?

etali - 24 November 2007 @ 5:20 pm

Since it's a freephone number I doubt anyone is making money from it. I had a call from this number and it was BT calling to arrange an engineer. Just mentioning this to say I agree with the poster saying it is a generic BT switchboard number.

Paula - 21 November 2007 @ 8:26 am

This number 08003289393 IS a BT number! It is ANYONE from BT calling from their switchboard extension telephone.

Helen - 19 November 2007 @ 6:03 pm

I have had several calls from this number too, when I answer they just hang up! Very annoying.

Iain - 16 November 2007 @ 2:29 pm

I've been getting calls from this number regularly - but on my fax number.

When I do 1471 and call back I get a recorded message that it's from BT and that "they'll contact me again if it's necessary".

How much does someone make out of the call-backs?

Simon - 12 November 2007 @ 3:38 pm

Its a BT conference call number, somebody has probably dialed a wrong number... you can put your tinfoil hats away

Matt - 18 October 2007 @ 5:41 pm

I have had a few missed calls from 08003289393, and have since spoken to BT about this.
Numerous websites claim it is the BT Nuisence Call Advice Line, BUT IT'S NOT. BT have told me they have no record of this number, and although when you call it back it claims it is BT, IT'S NOT. Probably someone scamming money from the ring backs!!!

Stuart Brown - 04 October 2007 @ 10:03 am

Have now had 3 silent calls from this number.
